While pre press activities like designing and content creation are attention to detail job, but still some mistakes may occur and jeopardize or derail all your efforts. Although your design might look immaculate to you but here might be color correction issues or spelling mistakes in your content. Since the pre press printing files are provided by client to the printer, it becomes his responsibility for the output and no one would like his client to get undesirable results.
Here are some tips to keep in mind for successful pre press printing –
- Right file size- Bridge the communication gap between designers and printer by ensuring they send the final version of file in right size. A project file is segmented into four zones i.e safe zone, live area, cut line and bleed area. Ensure that the printer gets the file is segmented so that printer doesn’t have to rework leading to delays and finger pointing.
- Right color mode- your document for printing purpose should be in CMYK color mode ie Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and black as these colors are used in digital press. For Digital format and web designs use RGB mode i.e Red, Green and Blue as they suit more to your computer monitor.
- Use Right application- For successful pre press printing you need to use the appropriate program or software as per your business needs. Software’s like Illustrator, In Design and Adobe Photoshop are Ideal choices to create designs. While one should avoid MS Word or MS PowerPoint to create professional printing content as the results may be a real setback.
- Check the Hardware- Although there are several kinds of printing devices available and your printer might have many, but it’s not necessary that it suits to your needs. So check the equipment used by printer especially if your project has solid colour areas. Therefore go with a printer having machines for fifth or sixth colour and can handle your project with complex folds.
- Use High Resolution- Always use High resolution and export all links, images, artwork at 300 DPI or more. Poor resolution will produce pixelated or fuzzy images resulting in poor quality output. Web designs can be created in 72 to 150 DPI for neat output.
- Export to PDF- Use high quality PDF with bleeds and crop marks while exporting your file. Other modes may have issues like different fonts, colour quality and could also be corrupted.
